On Trend: Blushing Beauties

So long, bronzer. Hello, blush. From the runways to the red carpet, flushed faces are back in style. Here, see how your favorite celebs have embraced the return of rosy cheeks.

Amber Heard
At a private dinner in LA, The Rum Diary actress matches her contoured blush to her fire-red lip shade. We like that she balances the pops of color with soft, dewy skin.

Mandy Moore
This singer-turned-actress uses peach blush on her lower cheeks to draw attention to the center of her face. Women with longer or square-shaped mugs can employ this application technique to emphasize their lips or eyes, instead of strong jawlines.

Elizabeth Banks
The 30 Rock actress channels her inner-pin-up with retro waves and dusty rose blush. We like how she extended the color line out to her temples to highlight the angles of her face.

Jennifer Love Hewitt
Hewitt adds a touch of sweetness to her plunging neckline by dusting the tops of her cheeks with a peachy-pink powder blush. Based on the precise placement, you can tell that she smiled when applying cheek color so as to line up her blush brush with the natural contours of her face.

Kate Bosworth
Women with pronounced cheekbones (like Bosworth), take note: If you concentrate color at the outer edges of your cheeks, you'll create a slimming effect for the rest of your face.

Keira Knightley
Calling all goth girls. To score a sophisticated, somber look like Knightley, dust blush pigments along the cheekbone areas directly under you eyes. The slightly atypical placement is hauntingly haute.

Krysten Ritter
The easiest way to wear neon blush hues? In moderation and not on the apples of your cheeks. (That would be way too David Bowie!) That's why we love how Ritter boasted a hint of electric cheek shading along the sides of her smile at this movie event.

Lady Gaga
Leave it to Lady Gaga to eschew rosy hues in favor of an opaque gray. While in London, the singer matches her cement-shaded blush to her silver locks. Real ladies looking to rock more exaggerated styles, like this one, can experiment with loose color pigments.

Christina Milian
When attending a party in LA, this songbird opts for a lavender blush to balance out to the yellow undertones of her skin. We also love how the hue looks with her pink-and-purple dress.

Nicole Richie
In true boho spirit, Richie uses safari tones to add dimension to her petite features. We like how she blends her almost-brown blush away from the center of her ears to highlight her cheekbones.

Scarlett Johansson
This bombshell scores 'tangerine dreams' status, thanks to coral blush and matching lip gloss. We like how the then-red-headed actress applied powder to the apples of her cheeks to emphasize the shape of her face.

Sophie Monk
This Aussie actress imports the bronzed beauty of Down Under with a kiss of color on each cheek. The easiest DIY approach to recreating this look at home? Apply cream-based blush to the pointiest part of each cheekbone, and blend thoroughly.

Zooey Deschanel
Quirky-cute Deschanel scores a girlie glow at a movie premiere by keeping her cheek color pastel, pretty, and matte. Mimic this look on the run by pinching your cheeks slightly—or brushing a mineral blush over the apples of your cheeks.

The Naked Truth: 4 Celebrities Go Nude for Allure

KERI HILSON
Before all her hit songs, Hilson worked behind the scenes as a successful songwriter. Stepping out of the background was not as effortless as Hilson, 28, now makes it look. "The transition to being in front of the camera was very, very difficult," she says. "Everyone has their idea of what you should look like. 'You need to get into the gym.' 'You need to wear less clothes.' 'Wear dresses and skirts.' 'Put a weave in.' 'Cut your hair.' 'Color your hair.' There are so many ways that others tug at you." To Hilson, posing naked stripped her back down to her real self. "We do a lot of things to seek validation: I have to get more expensive handbags or fake lashes or fake boobs. This shoot was about dropping all that."

BRIDGET MOYNAHAN
On Moynahan's mind in this picture: "Mostly whether things were getting squashed in the wrong way," she says. The 40-year-old Blue Bloods actress was confident about some things. "You know you're going to have good lighting and positioning to help your body out." In the real world, though, Moynahan says, "I never roam around in bikinis, and I am only naked in the privacy of my own home. In this electronic age, it's not safe to be naked anywhere else, even in locker rooms." But her hesitation isn't due to a lack of confidence. "I've been in the business a long time, so it didn't really faze me. I was completely comfortable."

ASHLEY TISDALE
Tisdale brought her mother to her nude shoot. "I've always wanted to be sure my parents approve of what I do," she says. "Even with my tattoos, my mom went with me. The 'believe' tattoo is because my mom always told me to believe." The High School Musical and Hellcats actress does six workouts a week, rotating a boot-camp class, cardio, strength training, and Spinning, but disrobing was actually much less about showing off her hard-earned shape than it was about growing up. "I'm 25, almost 26, but people think of me as much younger because I look young," she says. "Being in this shoot was me saying, 'I'm not just the young girl everybody thinks I am. I'm actually a woman.'"

How to Age Like a Supermodel

Cindy Crawford, Christie Brinkley, and Carolyn Murphy share their tips for looking gorgeous—and feeling great—after 30.

STAY STRONG
"My trainer, Sarah Hagaman, comes to my house three times a week. It's an old-fashioned workout. I do lunges and dead lifts on the Power Plate; it gives a little extra core strengthening. On the weekends, if I can get a hike or a walk in, I feel good about that."
—Cindy Crawford, 46

SAFEGUARD SKIN
"I love physical sunblocks with zinc. When I used to surf, I'd sometimes tuck a bottle of sunscreen into my wet suit sleeve—when you're in the water having a great time, you're not thinking about running out to put on more sunblock. I'm not surfing much anymore, but I love hiking and gardening, and I'm always wearing a hat and sunblock."
—Carolyn Murphy, 38

SAVE FACE
"Before taking the kids to school, I might put on a serum with vitamin C, which gives me a glow. After I work out, I put on a moisturizer with sunscreen, like Meaningful Beauty Antioxidant Day Crème SPF 20 UVA/UVB. If I'm really going to be in the sun, I'll wear an SPF 100 sunscreen, too, plus a hat and something that covers my chest. A couple of times a week, I'll use a glycolic pad before bed, and every night I put on a night cream."
—Crawford

EAT SENSIBLY
"When I turned 50, I was like, 'Cut me some slack. From here on out, if I feel like eating it, I'm eating it.' Of course, now that I'm 50-something, I realize that I just feel better if I eat right. I do it for me."
—Christie Brinkley, 58

AVOID YO-YO DIETING
"I met Dr. [Jean-Louis] Sebagh [my partner in Meaningful Beauty] when I was 28. He taught me to pick a weight and stay there. It's not good for your skin to stretch, contract, stretch, contract. I try not to have empty calories, though I do have chocolate every day. That's worth it to me."
—Crawford

GET REAL
"People expect too much from a cream. Like, if I lose weight, you see it in my face first, because you lose volume. And volume doesn't come in a jar. And then there's deep wrinkles, and even though some creams promise to treat them, I haven't found one that works. What you can treat is texture and fine lines. I learned to separate those things in my mind."
—Crawford

KEEP MOVING
"I try to get some exercise every day, and I usually average four or five times a week. I love yoga classes, but if I don't have time for them, I just roll the mat down in my bedroom and go through some sun salutations to sort of warm up for the day. I'll also squeeze some exercise into normal activities: I'll do squats while drying my hair or leg-lifts as I brush my teeth."
—Brinkley

REMEMBER YOUR HEAD
"Everyone loves to talk about plastic surgery and all that stuff, but hair is the most underestimated thing—if you have good color and shiny hair, you can see that across a room. In Nora Ephron's I Feel Bad About My Neck [Knopf], she writes about women being nostalgic for their young bodies. That's how I feel about hair. Now, I look at my daughter's, and I'm like, 'You have my old hair! I want it back!'"
—Crawford

REST EASY
"When I drink coffee, it's decaf. As I've gotten older, I don't take sleep for granted and I don't want anything to mess up my clock. My average is six and a half hours of sleep, but I would love to get eight."
—Crawford

NOURISH BODY AND SOUL
"The best anti-aging advice I've ever received? Drink a lot of water and have a plant-based diet. I also do mindful meditation with my daughter every day. It takes ten minutes. I think reducing stress plays a big part in anti-aging."
—Murphy

BE YOURSELF
"There are great things that come with being older: You feel more comfortable in your own skin. When I drop my kids off at school, I can go barefaced. It's like, what do I need to hide?"
—Crawford

Rooney Mara: Her Allure Photo Shoot

To play Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Mara got multiple piercings on her face and body. Makeup artist Kate Lee battled to cover the hole left by Mara's eyebrow stud for her Allure shoot. Here, the actress poses in a Vera Wang chiffon gown.

Besides her eyebrow piercing, Mara had her right nipple pierced for the film. "It was actually not that painful," she explains. "Everyone thinks that would be the most painful." There was no question, Mara says, of that piercing being faked. "I'm naked quite a lot in the movie," she says, in a matter-of-fact tone. "And I thought, She has it in the book, and she should have it [in the movie]. Because of all the tattoos and the makeup and the piercings, and the physical transformations my body has to go through, it would always feel sort of like I was in costume, even if I was naked. It just felt like a good one to get—a necessary one to get." Mara has removed the earrings and the eyebrow ring, but she's still wearing the nipple ring. "It's not something I want to ever get repierced," she says. (There might be two sequels.) "So I'm going to keep it in." Here, Mara wears a cotton eyelet vest by Vera Wang.

After smoothing Mara's hair with leave-in conditioner, gel, and thickening spray, hairstylist Rob Talty made a deep side part and secured it in a low ponytail. He pinned any remaining pieces on the sides for a look that was "clean and controlled." While Talty did her hair, the actress took a moment to relax. "I love it when people play with my hair—it makes me fall asleep," she said. In this photo, the actress poses in a silk cotton voile top and skirt by Emilio Pucci.

"I wanted people to see Rooney's beauty, not the makeup," said Lee, who kept the look ultranatural with neutral colors. First, she curled Mara's eyelashes, then coated them in black waterproof mascara and lined her lower lash line with a pale taupe pencil. She brushed a nude blush under the actress's cheekbones and added a touch of warm tawny blush to the apples. For the lips, Lee mixed a peach lipstick with a bit of concealer to create "the perfect nude."

"I had parts of my head shaved," says Mara of preparing for her role. "I was in that character for over a year. If you're going to do it, you have to do it." But it wasn't hard for her to transform. "People always ask, 'Were you crying when they cut your hair?' And it didn't freak me out at all. I was really happy to do it," she says.

Mara credits her lack of fame as an advantage in winning her role in the movie. "I don't think [director] David [Fincher]'s intention was ever to hire someone well-known," she says. "To make this movie, he needed someone that people were unfamiliar with because it's the only way they would really believe this character. She's such a mystery. You couldn't hire someone that people already have a relationship with."

Ashley Greene's Beauty Secrets

Her hair tips: "I don't put a lot of products in my hair, and I try not to use heat. Ted Gibson is my hairstylist, and he's incredible. His hair spray is the one that I use the most. I use his shampoo and conditioner now, too."

-Her lip obsession: "Mark Gloss Gorgeous Stay On Lip Stain. It's not supershiny and it's not sticky, because that drives me insane."

-Her sexy scent: "I wear Kai lotion and oil. It's a gardenia-type smell. Really fresh."

-Her glowing skin secret: "Mark has something called Get a Tint, and it's a mix between foundation and lotion, with a little bit of a bronze. Florida girl—gotta have a tan!"

-Her diet: "If I go back to Jacksonville on vacation to visit my family, the diet becomes a little more lax. The barbecue down there is so amazing... I work out really hard so I can eat what I want."

Steal Blake Lively's Oh-So-Pretty Curls

-Work a curl-sculpting cream into damp hair.
-Blow-dry, lifting the roots if you have fine hair that needs extra volume.
-Put your hair in large, soft hot rollers.
-Allow them to cool down all the way before removing, or, if it doesn't bother you/you're wearing them the next day, sleep on them.
-If, once you've removed the rollers, you have sections that are unruly or not curled enough, use a large-barreled curling iron to fix them by wrapping one-inch strands around the entire length of the heating element.
-Keep the iron vertical to create the cascading effect, curling sections away from your face.
-Finally, lots of high-hold, fine mist hairspray for those with hair that has trouble holding a curl, which is designed to give strong hold without adding much weight.

Get Penelope Cruz's look

Makeup artist Jeanine Lobell ahow us how to achieve Penelope's look using products by Channel:

FACE:Jeanine began by using a tinted moisturizer (lighter than foundation),
and set it with Poudre Cristalline Ultra-Fine Translucent Powder for a soft finish. This powder is colourless and also has brightening properties.

CHEEKS: To ensure that Penelope's cheeks were natural, warm, yet had a slight rosy flush, Jeanine decided to use light sweeps of Powder Blush in Rose Petale starting from the apples of her cheeks and pulling the brush towards the top of her ears.

EYES: Since the goal of this beauty look was to accentuate Pen's eyes, Jeanine started with a bone-coloured base shadow and then applied Silky Eye shadow duo in Brun-Express. She used the matte brown shade to make the lid nice and smoky and blended the colour all the way into the crease. Next, she added brown shadow under her eye and then lined the inner and outer rim of her lower and upper lashes with Intense Eye Pencil in Noir. Then, she smudged the top line and applied two coats of Inimitable Mascara in Noir on the top lashes only.

LIPS: Apparently Penelope opted to use her own nude lip liner which was applied all over, and were then topped with a clear gloss. This creates subtle colour with sexy shine.

Anne Hathaway's Golden Globe Night's look

Kate Lee came up with Anne Hathaway’s classic look for the Golden Globe Awards.Kate chose to keep the eye sculptural and neutral. She took a small brush and blended the darkest shade in the CHANEL QUADRA EYE SHADOW in MYSTIC EYES from the lash line upwards slightly to soften the line. In the socket line, she used a tiny amount of CHANEL SOFT TOUCH EYESHADOW in SLATE (launching in June 2009, given to Kate in advance for the Golden Globes), just enough to define the socket, and a tiny amount along the lower lash line. Next, she curled the eye lashes and applied sever layers of CHANEL INIMITABLE WATERPROOF MASCARA in Noir. Lancome Le Crayon Poudre in Brunet was the perfect product to gently add depth and definition to Anne’s brows.

Kate sculpted the cheekbones with CHANEL POWDER BLUSH in NUDE, and on the top of the cheek bones and along the jaw and clavicle she used Lancôme Absolue Powder in Absolute Peche.

The lips were a perfect dark raspberry shade stain. To achieve this effect, Kate lined the lips in CHANEL LIP DEFINER in NATURAL, a shade that matched the colour of Anne’s natural lip shade. Making sure the lips where moisturized and supple, she gently padded on CHANEL HYDRABASE LIPSTICK in LOTUS ROUGE, blending the edges of the lips so that there were no hard lines of colour.

As a perfect finishing touch, Kate used CHANEL POUDRE CRISTALLINE Utlra-Fine Translucent Powder to take away any shine from the forehead, nose and chin.

Anne's Hairdo

Start by applying lifting and texturizing spray gel from roots to ends, part hair in a very deep side part. Blow dry completely with extra large round brush, once completely dry, take all hair into a low ponytail, applying hair serum to hair for texture and shine and wrap with elastic band at the nape. Take the ponytail and tuck it underneath, using a few hair pins and bobby pins to keep it secure. Once done, spray sheer hold hairspray for the perfect hold.

Recreate Angelina Jolie's look

Makeup artist Mary Burton, working with Lancôme, created The Golden Globe Award's night's look for Angelina. Learn how to recreate it at home:

Face: Apply foundation and concealer where necessary. Use your fingers to dab Lancôme Color Design Blush in Model Mocha on the apples of cheeks.

Eyes: Use a pen eyeliner such as Lancôme Artliner in Noir to define the lash line. Start at the inner corner of the eye, staying close to the lashes, and blend outward. (If you've never used a pen eyeliner, keep the line straight by drawing a series of dots, then connecting them.) Line the outer corner of the lower lash line, too, gently smudging it. Burton used two mascaras — Courbe Virtuôse and Oscillation — to give Angelina's lashes volume and length.

Lips: Angelina's famous lips took center stage with a pale pink, sheer gloss. Burton used Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Spring Fling.
